Role Overview

Are you ready to flex your coding muscles and dive into the fascinating world of flow cytometers? Genus Research & Development is seeking a Software Engineer Co-Op who can juggle software development, user interface design, and embedded systems development. If you’re eager to create sleek UIs and dabble in embedded software for the Kria System-on-Module (SOM), we’ve got the perfect hands-on, brain-engaging opportunity for you. Bonus points if you can laugh at the occasional tech hiccup (you know, the "it worked on my machine" moments).

 

The position is located in Windsor, Wisconsin. This role works 40 hours per week; Monday – Friday, 8am to 4:30pm. The Co-Op will be on-site initially with opportunities for hybrid later on based on individual performance.  

 

The hourly compensation range for this position is ($22 - $27) USD. The compensation provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. Genus considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing the UI for flow cytometer instruments using JavaFX or similar frameworks.
  • Support embedded software development for the Kria System-on-Module (SOM).
  • Apply problem-solving skills to address development challenges and contribute innovative solutions.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members to meet project goals and deadlines.
  • Gain hands-on experience in UI design and embedded systems development.
  • Uphold the Genus core values, mission and vision.
  • Position may require work responsibilities outside of normal business hours.
  • Performs other projects and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

Basic Qualifications: (required)

  • Educational Background: Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Programming Skills: Basic knowledge of Java.
  • Available for 7 month Co-Op with target dates January 21, 2025 through August 19, 2025.
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with JavaFX or similar UI frameworks.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Communication: Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Adaptability: Willingness to learn new technologies and adapt to changing project requirements in a collaborative environment.
