Job Description

Ascension Counseling, Ltd. is thrilled to announce an opening for a Counselor Trainee position, tailored especially for individuals pursuing their Master's degree and in need of an internship opportunity. This position offers a unique blend of flexibility with a Work From Home (WFH) Flex option, allowing for significant adaptability in maintaining work-life and educational commitments.

As a dynamic and forward-thinking organization, we recognize the importance of hands-on experience in the educational trajectories of counseling professionals. The Counselor Trainee (Masters Level Internship) is designed to provide substantive, practical exposure to the field of behavioral health, focusing particularly on chemical dependency and complex mental health disorders within diverse populations.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Participate in and eventually facilitate virtual Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) groups under the direct supervision of licensed supervisors.
  • Engage in the planning and execution of treatment plans for clients, with an emphasis on culturally competent care.
  • Conduct regular client assessments to monitor progress, update treatment plans, and ensure compliance with therapeutic goals.
  • Maintain high standards of clinical documentation within required timelines and formats.
  • Participate in weekly supervision with a LPCC-S and an IMFT-S to ensure adherence to clinical protocols and foster professional growth.
  • Assist in developing outreach programs to enhance community engagement and service accessibility.
  • Attend and contribute to team meetings, presenting cases and participating in peer review processes.
  • Collaborate with other health professionals to create a comprehensive and effective therapeutic environment for all clients.
  • Ensure ethical and confidential treatment of all client information.
  • Utilize digital tools and platforms for scheduling, communication, and documentation in a competent and professional manner.

Requirements

  • Must be currently enrolled in a Master’s degree program in counseling, social work, or a closely related field.
  • The internship requires a commitment of 12 hours per week.
  • Available to work 4-5 days per week from 5pm-8pm and Saturdays from 10am-noon.
  • Must have high cultural competency, awareness, and sensitivity.
  • Timely and accurate clinical documentation skills are essential.
  • Must already possess a Counselor Trainee license in the state of Ohio.Β 
  • Must be in the process of obtaining or already possess a CDCA (Chemical Dependency Counselor Assistant) license in the state of Ohio.
  • Ability to work independently in a virtual setting while maintaining professional standards.
  • Desire to learn and grow within the field of chemical dependency and mental health counseling.
  • Should have access to a stable internet connection and a conducive workspace for conducting virtual sessions.
