Description

​​​​​​The internship offers a robust learning and development environment designed to provide hands-on experience in critical areas of cybersecurity. Interns will gain practical knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks and standards such as FISMA, NIST RMF, NIST CSF, ISO/IEC 27001, and DoD CMMC, while applying these to real-world scenarios. They will develop skills in risk analysis, policy development, and providing cybersecurity guidance across a range of domains, including threat modeling, IAM, and security architecture. Exposure to cutting-edge security tools and techniques will enhance their technical acumen, while participation in SOC activities, phishing campaigns, and vulnerability management will offer an immersive experience in operational security.

Interns will also support incident management, disaster recovery, and business continuity planning, gaining critical insights into crisis response and resilience building. Additionally, they will contribute to the preparation of SA&A documentation and assist in internal and external audits, providing a comprehensive understanding of compliance and governance processes. This opportunity fosters both professional growth and a deep understanding of the cybersecurity landscape, preparing interns for impactful careers in the field.

  • Apply knowledge of cybersecurity standards such as FISMA, NIST RMF, NIST CSF, NIST Special Publication 800 Series, ISO/IEC 27001, and DoD CMMC.
  • Perform information security and privacy risk analysis.
  • Provide cybersecurity guidance to internal and external customers in areas like CDM, IAM, threat modeling, DLP, physical and environmental protection, personnel security, IDS/IPS, VPN, and security architecture.
  • Support the development and analysis of security policies and procedures in compliance with applicable regulations and industry best practices.
  • Research emerging information security topics, tools, and techniques.
  • Support Security Operations Center (SOC) activities, including threat intelligence.
  • Assist with incident management by gathering relevant data and artifacts, communicating response activities to stakeholders, and facilitating recovery.
  • Support disaster recovery and business continuity management.
  • Assist in the vulnerability management program, including the identification, classification, and mitigation of vulnerabilities.
  • Monitor SIEM (Security Information and Event Management) systems, analyzing logs and reports to identify and assess anomalous or suspicious activities.
  • Participate in phishing campaign activities.
  • Assist in preparing Security Assessment and Authorization (SA&A) documentation, such as Privacy Impact Assessments (PIA), System Security Plans (SSP), and Contingency Plans (CP).
  • Support internal and external information security audits.

Qualifications

  • Must be a senior in Bachelors program or in Masters Program
  • Basic Cybersecurity Knowledge

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Tools
  • Preferred certification: CompTIA SEC+
  • Preferred knowledge: NIST and FISMA

The hourly rate for this position is $15.00 per hour. Actual compensation will depend on a range of factors, including but not limited to the individual’s skills, experience, qualifications, certifications, location, other business and organizational needs, and applicable employment laws.
