Description

The Public Health Policy/Research Intern will work closely with our Medicaid Policy Lead and other senior health services researchers and health economists to support the application of health equity frameworks and equity-driven data collection methods in public health research and program evaluation projects. This role is ideal for a strong undergraduate or graduate student studying public health/policy with an interest in addressing health equity through evidence-based research in the areas of maternal health and behavioral health.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct scans for equity-based theoretical frameworks for research and evaluation and equity-informed data collection methods. Read related seminal articles and summarize key points in written and oral formats.
  • Conduct scans for federal initiatives that have addressed health disparities and document their implementation strategies, delivery and payment interventions, evaluation methods and reported outcomes.
  • Conduct literature scans and read seminal articles on treatment and outcomes disparities (racial/ethnic, rural/urban) in behavioral health and maternal health.
  • Review data collection methodologies used in equity-based research and document their application in prior program evaluations.
  • Compile information from these scans using Excel spreadsheets and Word documents to capture key points, extracted text, and citations. Communicate results from scans and literature review in written and oral formats.
  • Compile, organize, and maintain reference sources and reference list, ensure information from references is accurately represented and appropriately cited in proposal and project materials.
  • Work closely with project leadership in the development of research protocols for qualitative data collection, including methods for patient and stakeholder engagement, participate in data collection activities and analysis of qualitative data;
  • Conduct environmental scans and monitor for state and federal policies impacting program participant efforts to address disparities.

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Public Health/Policy or a related degree
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and interpersonal collaboration
  • Course completion in conducting literature reviews, policy scans, or policy analysis
  • Some knowledge of health disparities and social determinants of health preferred
  • Must reside in a HUBZone

The hourly rate for this position is $15.00 per hour. Actual compensation will depend on a range of factors, including but not limited to the individual’s skills, experience, qualifications, certifications, location, other business and organizational needs, and applicable employment laws. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of the total compensation package for employees.
