Position: Lending Intern

Supervisor: Director of Lending

FLSA Status: Temporary, Nonexempt

Schedule: 40 hours per week for 12 weeks

Location: Combination of remote and office based

*Must be in Twin Cities area*

Start/End Date: June 2nd - August 22nd, 2025 (These dates are flexible depending on student school schedule)

Pay: $20 / hour

Position Summary:

The Lending Intern will support the lending team by providing essential assistance to Loan Officers in managing the active loan application pipeline. This internship provides an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in small business lending and nonprofit financial services, specifically within the context of a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI).

The intern will be responsible for assisting with client communication, loan status monitoring, and follow-up activities, ensuring that loan applications progress smoothly through the various stages. The intern will also support and contribute to the overall success of the lending team by gaining valuable skills in loan processing, compliance, and client relationship management.

This role is ideal for individuals seeking to develop a strong foundation in financial services, nonprofit lending, and community economic development while making a tangible impact on small businesses. The internship will provide opportunities for skill-building in client communication, loan pipeline management, and professional development in a supportive and collaborative environment.

This internship has been funded through the Associated Bank's Nonprofit Lender Internship Program. As part of this program, ideal candidates will demonstrate how they have overcome socioeconomic barriers during their time as a student or have lived in or graduated from a high school in a low- or moderate-income community. All students are encouraged to apply.

Core Duties:

  • Assist Loan Officers in managing client communications, ensuring timely and professional responses to inquiries.
  • Monitor and update the status of active loan applications in our pipeline.
  • Follow up with clients and internal stakeholders to gather necessary documentation and information for loan processing.
  • Support the preparation of loan packages and documentation for submission and review.
  • Conduct research and analysis as directed to support loan decision-making processes.
  • Maintain accurate and organized records of client interactions and loan application progress.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members to ensure efficient workflow and client satisfaction.
  • Other duties, tasks, and responsibilities that may be assigned at any time

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Currently pursuing in a degree in a business related or IT field with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • Interest in learning about financial services and small business lending.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite preferred, with an ability to learn and adapt to proprietary industry software products.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Excellent cultural competencies and ability to collaborate across diverse perspectives, ideas, and people with diverse backgrounds.
  • High level of commitment to issues of gender equality and the social mission of the agency.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and thoroughness in work.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team environment.
  • The intern cannot be a member or relative of WomenVenture's staff or Board of Directors.

Work Environment/Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this position, the intern is frequently required to sit for extended periods and may be required to stand for an extended period.
