Social Media & Marketing Intern – Return® Good-for-the-Earth Growing Supplies

Are you passionate about social media, growing brands, and making a positive impact on the earth? 

Return® is looking for a creative, driven Social Media Intern who is eager to learn about growing and engaging online communities and contributing to omni-channel marketing efforts.

Duration: 3-6 months, with the ability to extend or return.

Please note: you must be eligible to receive college or graduate credit to accept this internship.

Key Responsibilities:

Learn and assist with community management: 

  • Learn how our marketing team engages with our online community and help create positive touchpoints with our online community by reading and responding to comments, messages, and inquiries across platforms. 
  • You’ll help create a positive, interactive space for our audience, fostering meaningful conversations about growing food and fostering soil health.

Support content creation efforts: 

  • This will be the largest learning opportunity in your internship. Our marketing team curates and develops original, engaging content for our social media platforms (Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, LinkedIn), with a focus on gardening, growing food, and soil health/sustainability. 
  • This includes a balance of breakthrough gardening and product-focused content. You will learn how to identify and curate relevant content from other creators to keep our feed fresh and help us expand our online community. 
  • It’s important to note that Return is a modern gardening brand targeting millennial and GenZ urban gardeners. We differentiate ourselves with a distinct and witty voice that’s like your older brother (think: Yeti, LADBible, Barstool) and a focus on growing food, rather than just houseplants. By targeting this niche within the lawn and garden sector, we aim to serve and bring more men into the sustainable gardening movement. (They represent more than 52% of gardeners, yet are underserved in the product space.)  

Contributing to social media strategy: 

  • Collaborate with our marketing team to support and execute social media strategies aimed at increasing brand awareness, audience growth, and engagement. Help follow and monitor trends, find new opportunities to elevate Return® across social channels. 
  • With time, we’ll be looking to you to bring fresh ideas to the table. You’ll develop an eye for spotting social trends and the ability to quickly pivot and adapt content to them in a way that’s on brand. 

Reinforce community management: 

  • Learn how to manage and increase engagement for a startup brand alongside our Marketing Manager and Creative Director. In a few short weeks, you’ll start assisting with our online community by responding to comments, messages, and inquiries across platforms. 
  • You’ll help create a positive, interactive space for our audience, fostering meaningful conversations about growing food and fostering soil health.

Support brand alignment: 

  • Learn the ins and outs of strong brand development while helping ensure all content and customer touchpoints align with Return’s core values of soil health and regeneration.
  • You’ll help the Return brand breakthrough with a distinctively witty tone and approachable style.

Provide input to analytics & reporting: 

  • Learn how to develop a powerful social media report. Help track performance and assist Marketing Manager with engagement, follower growth, and post effectiveness. 
  • Discover findings from data and use them to inform content and engagement strategies.

General marketing support: 

  • Get mentorship from two marketing professionals with more than 30 years of combined experience. 
  • Contribute to broader marketing initiatives, from brainstorming creative campaigns to assisting with email marketing, daily project management, and other brand outreach efforts, all designed to grow our brand and boost engagement. This will not take up more than 20% of your time in this role. 

Qualifications:

  • Currently studying or has recent experience in social media marketing, digital communications, or related fields. *Must be eligible to receive college credit.
  • Track record (can be personal) with at least 2 major social media platforms (preferably: Instagram, TikTok, or Facebook) and their best practices; bonus if you have experience working with retail or CPG brands.
  • Solid and clear writing skills, with the ability to understand our brand’s voice.
  • Media and trend savvy. We’re looking for fresh ideas and the ability to follow through on them! 
  • Experience with social scheduling applications and simple design software (Canva). InDesign is a bonus. 
  • Willingness to shoot photos and videos on a smartphone in a designated content space. (Having a garden or potted plants is a big plus!)
  • Ability to create and edit from a personal mobile device.
  • Desire to learn and work in other areas of marketing.
  • Ability to think creatively, stay organized, and work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Experience or genuine interest in gardening, sustainability, or growing food is a big plus!
