Summary
The CNH Soil and Crop Modeling (SCM) Team is comprised of a broad range of professionals with varied experience dedicated to developing cutting-edge simulation technologies related to soil and crop flow through Agricultural and by Construction Equipment. These technologies are an integral part of product development across CNH's global product platforms. The SCM team utilizes advanced computer software to simulate complex soil and crop interactions with machinery sub-systems. These simulations are based on the Discrete-Element Method and are often coupled with Computational Fluid Dynamics and Multi-Body Dynamics. Through these simulations, the SCM team contributes to the early stages of conceptualization, product development, innovation and optimization of production-intent machinery designs. All SCM interns become valued members of the team contributing to expanding the library of virtual soils and crops while increasing the confidence in the simulation results.
Responsibilities
The primary objective of the internship will be to develop physics model for virtual crop and field. The candidate will get opportunity to perform both laboratory characterization tests, and calibrate simulation models to understand physical properties of crop's stem, seed, and leaf. The intern will measure crop physical and mechanical properties, process measurement data and perform Discrete Element Modeling (DEM) calibrations simulations. The final model will be validated by testing model prediction with industrial-scale rig tests. The candidate will create a report of the work completed at the end of the internship, and present the developed model to crop flow modeling, and design engineers.
Qualifications
Candidates may be pursuing (at minimum) a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Agricultural Engineering, Mechanical engineering, Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biosystems Engineering, or related degree).
