The Council for Court Excellence (CCE) is a non-profit organization with a mission to enhance the justice system in the District of Columbia to serve the public equitably. CCE collaborates with diverse stakeholders to conduct research, advance policy reform, educate the public, and increase civic engagement on justice-related issues. CCE’s work focuses on the adult criminal legal system, youth justice systems, and civil justice/access to justice issues.
The CCE Development internship program provides a unique opportunity for exceptional undergraduate or graduate students to contribute directly and tangibly to District-wide justice reform. Working closely with the Development Director, the Development Intern will help implement CCE’s fundraising strategy and perform development activities, including individual giving, corporate sponsorships, membership dues, grants, and special events. An ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, proactive, a strong writer and researcher, and interested in nonprofit management and fundraising as well as feel passionate about systemic change within the justice system.
General Responsibilities Â
In this position, you will learn how the CCE’s Director of Development runs a variety of projects, including annual campaigns, grants, communications strategies, database management, email marketing, fundraising strategies, and event management. Our Intern will work in collaboration with team members and be responsible for tasks which may include, but not be limited to:
Undergraduate students are eligible for CCE internships, though we also welcome graduate students. Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States.
Education: Priority is given to candidates enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program with a keen interest in nonprofit management, fund development, marketing and communications – or that is relevant to CCE’s mission (such as public policy, law, courts, civic engagement, government, journalism or public relations).
Preferred Interests and Skills: We are seeking a detail-oriented candidate with excellent writing and research skills. Coursework in nonprofit management, writing, and/or data analysis, and experience in fundraising or working with databases are a plus.
For students who are not receiving course credit or other funding for their internship, CCE will provide a full-time intern a $3,500 stipend. CCE also covers public transportation costs to and from required meetings or events. Â
Availability Â
CCE offers hybrid work opportunities (at our office located in downtown Washington, D.C., in a location of your choice, or some combination); we often host events in the office or in D.C., so we prefer locally based interns. We are seeking an intern for Summer (from June to August). Positions can be full-time (37.5 hours per week) or part-time (20 hours per week), based on the needs of the organization and student availability.
